Website maintenance

We’re stuck inside with a Zoom call at 1pm and some time on our hands. Maybe you want a project you can do while you multitask helping your kids with schoolwork.

Here are just a few ideas on what you could be doing to help your website.

Update, update, update

One of the biggest issues I find with most of my clients is that they don’t do updates. WordPress is open source, what does that mean?

Opensource: denoting software for which the original source code is made freely available and may be redistributed and modified.

What this means for your website is that anyone can get the code and find weaknesses and potentially hack your site (at the worst) or spam it (at the least), so you want to do those updates – that’s what keeps you protected from being vulnerable. Also, sometimes there are some really cool features in updates that you would like to take advantage of.

Check with your host and see if they have a mechanism for automatic updates – this can save you a lot of time and hassle in the future.

Update and Link to your social media So I’m going to show some bias, but after working with a lot of plugins, I tend to stay with Jetpack. It is pretty all-encompassing as a tool for social media integration and integrating with Google Analytics.

Again, here’s a pretty good video with how to connect it up to your website and get more out of the plugin:

Don’t forget we can help you with any of this online!
Along with the topics above, here are some suggested topics that lend themselves to a one-on-one meeting:
  • Questions about your current website and answers to technical issues you may be having.
  • Suggestions on how to improve your website with direction to tutorials and information you may need to complete the work.
  • Suggestions on how to improve your digital marketing approach – engagement, followers and sales through your marketing. How to target your reach.
  • Suggestions on other functionality you can add to your website to make it more functional for your business needs.
